Muli Bwanji Malawi!

Well I've been in Malawi for 2 months now so I think it is about time I get this pup going! I moved to Malawi in October for a 2 year position with an organization called Innovations for Poverty Action. I've never blogged before and I'm not good at it, but I have a few simple goals for this thing:

#1. Don't write too much.

If I ever come across a friend's blog that has pages and pages written, I get too intimidated and don't read a word. If it's a few cool paragraphs, I read the whole thing. I want you to read this. So I won't write a lot.

#1a. Post cool pictures.

On the heels of goal #1, this blog isn't for my rants of Africa, poverty, inequality, etc. We have Nick Kristof in the NYTimes editorial to fill that void in our lives. I do want to show you what I'm up to though and pictures are excellent. A picture is worth a thousand words. Less words, more pictures on Malawi blog.

#2. Show family and friends the little details of life

I know when I come home in a few years this conversation will happen too many times:

Friend: So how was Africa?
Me: It was good.
Friend: What was the best part?
Me: I don't know where to begin with that question.
Friend. Big gulps eh? Welp cya later.

I think the little stories of daily life are what make any experience memorable. Unfortunately, those little stories never come out in the catch-up conversations above. I'm hoping I can show many of the little wrinkles of daily life here so that we can talk about those things someday instead of a whole lot of nothing.

#3. Show off Malawi

Most people have heard of Malawi for one reason: Madonna adopted a baby from here. (Myself included). Madonna sucks. Malawi doesn't. In my short time here I've discovered one of the excellent hidden treasures of the world. No one really knows about and that makes it that much cooler.

Those are the 3 goals from the "Warm Heart of Africa"! Here are a few rando pictures so I follow the goals from the start!

Probably the best sunset I've ever seen. More to come of Lake Malawi!
The Shire River at Liwonde National Park

Oh hey elephant! Liwonde National Park is a 5 minute drive from my house. Stumbled upon this guy while driving out!
